Nematode Inoculum Service
MacGuidwin Nematology Lab, University of Wisconsin-Madison
Culture System:
We culture root lesion nematodes, Pratylenchus spp., in monoxenic culture using sweet corn and Gamborg’s B-5 medium. Each culture is descended from a single female nematode collected from an agricultural field in Wisconsin.
We culture root knot, Meloidogyne hapla, and soybean cyst, Heterodera glycines, on tomato or soybean, respectively, in soil. The cultures are descended from populations of nematodes collected from an agricultural field in Wisconsin.
Inoculum:
Inoculum of Pratylenchus spp. consists of all vermiform stages and a small number of eggs in water. Inoculum of Meloidogyne hapla and Heterodera glycines consists of eggs in water. For all genera, the inoculum is shipped for next-day delivery in a single bottle with the concentration provided. .
All of the cultures are used for research in our lab so their infectivity and pathogenicity is evaluated regularly.
Ordering Information:
Root lesion nematodes are available year-round, although advance notice of an order is appreciated. Root knot and soybean cyst nematodes must be ordered 60 days in advance.
Please contact Ann MacGuidwin by email to place an order.
